Walter Rhee received his Bachelor's degree from Cornell in marine biology. He then went into graduate research in shellfish aquaculture. However, eating research animals fascinated Walter more than research which eventually led him to his true passion-- food science, and a Master's degree in food science from the University of Hawaii. He has taught cooking for more than 18 years; at the Food Science and Human Nutrition Departments of both University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and at the University of Hawaii. He also taught Asian cooking at the Cambridge Center for Adult Education (non-profit organization) in Massachusetts for 15 years.
Furthermore, Walter grew up and traveled throughout South East Asia and the Far East as diplomat’s dependent in the ‘60s and the ‘70s. During those years, he cultivated his knowledge and experience on Asian cooking. He is currently working on a book about Hawaii's hidden eateries.
